My recent trip to Austin, Texas for the Austin City Limits Music Festival was a fabulous time. Exploring the city of Austin and listening to great music made for an exciting weekend. The culture of Austin is interesting, with a ton of cool dive bars and hip restaurants to explore. If you love food and style, Austin is the place for you! Here is a recap of our style for ACL Fest and some tips to make your trip to ACL great!

Peace Out ACL Fest!

Peace Out ACL Fest!

Here are some tips to make your ACL Fest Experience the best:

- Wear comfortable shoes! There will be a ton of walking and it will be dirty so I recommend wearing a closed toe shoe.

- Bring a water bottle or buy one at the festival. Camelbak has a free refill station where you can fill your water bottle.

- Take advantage of syncing your credit card to your 3 Day Pass, it makes buying food and drinks so much easier.

- Buy a locker! It was nice being able to stash away some stuff so we didn't have to carry it the whole time.

- Wear a hat and sunscreen! The Texas heat will get to you.

- Experiment with your style! Anything goes in Austin, it is the best chance to try something new!

What is your favorite festival style? Leave your ideas in the comments!

Favorite Things Friday: August 8th

by Hailey Urbach in ,

For this Favorite Things Friday post I wanted to share some of the new products I have been trying out.

Sonya Dakar Flash Facial, Davines This Is A Sea Salt Spray, Benefit They're Real Push Up Eye Liner

Sonya Dakar Flash Facial, Davines This Is A Sea Salt Spray, Benefit They're Real Push Up Eye Liner

Adorable packaging of the Davines This Is A Sea Salt Spray.

The Sonya Dakar Flash Facial is so different from other products that I have used. It is like a mini acid peel anytime you want! I loved how it left my skin feeling so fresh.

The Davines This Is a Sea Salt Spray is AMAZING! I love beachy waves, this spray gives awesome texture and smells like a beach vacation! I sprayed this on my hair after I had added some loose waves with a curling iron.

The Benefit They're Real Push-Up Liner was a little difficult for me to use at first. I think after a little practice it will be great for creating a defined cat eye. The liner pushes up through a silicon tip, not like your regular twist up liner that is a stick.

I hope you try these interesting products! If you have any products you would like me to review, leave suggestions in the comments! Happy Friday!

Feature Spot On: Haybands

by Hailey Urbach

This week HU Knew Style has teamed up with Haybands for an amazing sale and a fabulous giveaway. Head to the bottom of this post for details on the giveaway and sale tonight!

We wanted to learn more about Haybands and the idea behind the brand. We interviewed the Owner and Founder of Haybands, Hayley Childress, to see how Haybands got started.

1) What inspired you to start Haybands? How did you get started?

Ever since I was a little girl, I hated bows and headband accessories in my hair because they hurt and gave me terrible headaches. I would fight to not have to wear anything in my hair unless it was a plush, super soft scrunch -embarrassingly enough.

Fast-forward twenty years, after finishing my first semester in the Occupational Therapy Master’s Program at LSUHSC my mom and I decided to take a relaxing vacation to San Francisco. While visiting a boutique, I came upon an unlabeled clear bowl of black hair ties at the check out counter. I asked the sales lady what they were, and when she replied “Those are some hair ties for pony tails,” I instantly had one of those “ah-ha!” moments great entrepreneurs have spoken of.

Since there was no brand or business that claimed these modern day ‘scrunchies’, I became obsessed with finding the fabric myself. When I was finally able to pin point the exact width, material, and pantone colors I wanted to buy for myself, Haybands (from my name, Hayley) was born.

What started as making hair ties and headbands for myself and friends, led to requests for orders from local New Orleans boutiques.

2) What inspires the products that you create?

I grew up in New Orleans and the people and culture of the city have inspired my designs. I would say my experiences at music festivals have inspired my bohemian braided headband, the Haylo. As far as my present day inspiration goes, my daily Pinterest escapades and online store browsing always spark new ideas and potential designs for future Haybands collections. The Southern culture of football fanatics and hot humid days have also inspired my designs.

3) Who is your style muse?

Mary Kate Olsen. I grew up watching this actress’, now style icon, look transform from brightly clad print ensembles to an unconventional bohemian lifestyle brand. She and her sister broke the norm of successful child stars turned 'downhill career path' by adulthood. Mary Kate stayed focused on her dream to create a fashionable brand that represented both she and her sister’s day-to-day style. Mary Kate is not only a style muse in my eyes, but an inspirational entrepreneur and savvy businesswoman.

4) Where do you source your materials? Do you make the headbands yourself?

Everything that encompasses Haybands from our trademarked and licensed logo, our website, social media, custom designed packaging, elastic, silk flowers, marketing materials, and graphic design is created, sourced, and inventoried by myself. I am able to source the majority of our materials here in the United States. However, there are certain pantone elastics that cannot be found anywhere other than the thriving textile driven cities of China. There is no business background, economics degree, or professional businessman running Haybands. For the past three years, every component of this established business has been self-taught.

As far as production goes, there is no way I would be able to make all of these items myself. I am so fortunate to have our amazing in-house braiding experts (one of them being my mom) to keep the quality and consistency to my highest standards.

5) What do you see in the future for Haybands?

As my King Charles Cavalier, Banks, and I will soon be moving to Wichita, Kansas to live with the love of my life, I will also be leaving the Haybands headquarters in New Orleans to my hard working production team. I will continue to manage Haybands and maintain the necessary communications with stores and inquiring customers. I hope to expand our brand into the Midwest and West Coast within the next five years. We have broadened our collections and products from solely hair accessories to tank tops and think.be.live line of slim, super cool, and waterproof wallets. We will be offering even more categories of products such as fashionable key rings and cell phone accessories by the end of 2014. Haybands will become a lifestyle and comfort brand that encompasses all cultures and important milestones in life.

Close Up Of My Favorite Things For This Week

Close Up Of My Favorite Things For This Week

Lilly Pulitzer Kingsley Crew Neck Pull On in "Nice Tail" Print- I am OBSESSED with this print. The mermaids are so adorable. This pull on is so comfortable and perfect for summertime, especially when it gets a little cooler in the evening.

Kate Spade Call to Action Tote "Tequila Is Not My Friend"- I have been wanting this tote for a long time and was finally able to find it on eBay! I think it is hilarious and that it is the perfect tote for a vacation! Also, I love margaritas.

Intro 01 White Patent Flower Flip Flops- I got these on Lulus.com. I needed some new sandals for the summer and thought these were basic enough to wear everyday. The little daisies are so cute.

Sheinside Blue Off The Shoulder Crop Embroidered Lace Crop Top- I always need another crop top and I love the off the shoulder style for summer. This would be perfect paired with a high waisted maxi skirt and wedges. Also, the prices at Sheinside are awesome- this top is only $11!!

Skin An Apothecary Soy Body Whip in Poppy- My local hair and nail salon uses this as part of their treatments and I had to have it. The smell is feminine and light enough to wear for summertime. I like to put this on at night for a bit of luxury!

Here are my favorite beauty products for this week! I love shopping at drug stores and finding great products, most of the items I have featured here you will be able to find at your local drug store.

Favorite Things Friday

Favorite Things Friday

1. Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets - I have been using these since high school and I haven't found anything better! To me there is no point in spending a ton of money on expensive blotting sheets when these do the trick just fine.

2. Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Glow Pad for Face - I am obsessed with this product! It is a gentle peel and self tanner in one. Being fair skinned, this product develops a very natural looking color. I am going to try the Glow Pads for body next!

3. Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm - I can't say enough about this product. There is a reason it has such a cult following. It is very moisturizing and the colors are very flattering. For the price, you just can't beat it. I honestly prefer it to expensive lip balms.

4. Physicians Formula Powder Palette Mineral Glow Pearls - Another awesome drug store find! These mineral glow pearls are perfect swept across the top of your cheekbones!

5. Olay Fresh Effects Bright On Schedule Eye Awakening Cream - With allergies in full swing this product is the perfect solution for puffy morning eyes. After washing my face I put this on. I think it would be even better if left in the fridge overnight!

May Birchbox Review

by Hailey Urbach

Birchbox is one of my favorite monthly subscription boxes. My May box had a few interesting items, read my review here:

All the items in my May Birchbox

All the items in my May Birchbox

Supergoop! Everyday SPF 30 with Cellular Response Technology- I am OBSESSED! I can't rave about this product enough. As a very fair skinned person I am particular about my sunscreen, and this is simply the best. It is light and does not feel oily at all. I also love that this sunscreen has a ton of antioxidants that help repair your skin while protecting it. I am going to purchase the jumbo size on Birchbox so I can use it through the summer! Its perfect for face and body.

Marcelle BB Cream Golden Glow - I have to say this product was not my favorite. The tint of the BB cream really did not suit my skin tone, but would be perfect for those with more olive to dark skin.

PIXI Beauty Shea Butter Lip Balm- I have tried this brand before (it is at Target) and it really isn't that impressive. I much prefer Maybelline's Baby Lips Lip Balm to this product.

Smarty Pants All-in-One Adult Complete Gummy Vitamins + Fiber- Now, I love a good gummy vitamin, but this did not do it for me. It tasted so weird!  I will stick to my regular vitamins for now.

Nexus Color Assure System- I used all of the steps when I tried this product. I am not exactly sure how much of a difference the Pre-Wash Primer made, but it did feel nice. I have tried a lot of different color protecting shampoos and this was not my favorite. My favorite shampoo is the Kérastase Bain Force Architecte - Cleanse. The whole line is amazing, especially for people who color or bleach their hair!

Overall, my May Birchbox was a miss, but I loved the Supergoop Sunscreen so much it made it up to me.

If you would like to get your own Birchbox (it's only $10 a month!!), register via this link.
